"The services that are needed to help victims of sexual violence and abuse are provided, in the main, at the local level where preventive and awareness-raising measures can be most effective." said Johan van den HOUT, the Congress Thematic Spokesperson on Children (Netherlands, SOC) speaking at the Conference on violence in sports, including sexual violence on 7 October in Budapest (Hungary). In this regard, he referred to the Pact of Towns and Regions to Stop Violence against Children prepared by the Congress in the framework of the Council of Europe's ONE in FIVE Campaign on this subject, stressing the importance of it implementation at local and regional level. "Measures to combat sexual abuse of children will always be cost-effective as they are an investment in a healthy community, based on the respect for human rights." he said.
